Whether you need a single door hung, a front door made secure, or a full set of period doors brought back to life, Fix and Build handles every kind of door work. We work in new builds, older houses, flats and commercial properties across Glasgow.
Door fitting
Internal doors
We hang new internal doors to a high standard, trimming each one to suit your opening and fitting hinges, latches and handles so it closes neatly with even gaps all round.
External doors
Front, back and side doors in timber or composite, fitted to be secure, weathertight and draught-free.
Fire doors
Certified FD30 and FD60 fire doors installed with the correct seals, hinges and closers, so they perform as they should and meet the manufacturer's certification. Ideal for flat entrance doors, HMOs and rental properties.
Sliding, pocket and bifold doors
Space-saving options for tight hallways, kitchens and bathrooms, including pocket doors that slide into the wall.
French, double and stable doors
Pairs and split doors hung to meet evenly and operate smoothly.
Cupboard and press doors
New or replacement doors for built-in cupboards, presses and wardrobes.
Frames, linings and finishing
We fit and replace door frames and linings, widen or move doorways, block up old openings, and fit architraves, skirtings and thresholds to give every door a clean, finished look. We can also match existing period mouldings so new work blends in with the old.
Locks, handles and hardware
From a new handle to a full security upgrade, we fit British Standard locks, multipoint locking, door viewers, chains, letterboxes, closers and all types of door furniture. If your insurer requires a BS3621 lock, we can fit one for you.
Door repairs
Most door problems can be fixed without replacing the door. We regularly repair:
- Doors that stick, rub or won't close properly
- Doors that won't latch or lock
- Dropped or sagging doors and loose hinges
- Split panels, broken beads and damaged mouldings
- Rotten door bottoms, frames and thresholds
- Damage after a break-in or forced entry
We'll always tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.
Draught-proofing and noise reduction
In flats, cold air and noise from the shared stairwell are two of the most common complaints we hear. We fit draught seals, threshold strips, letterbox brushes and acoustic seals to make your home warmer and quieter.
Doors for every kind of home
Every age of building brings its own door problems, and we know how to deal with them:
New-build homes
As a new house dries out and settles in its first couple of years, doors often start to catch, drop or stop latching. We ease and rehang them, adjust hinges and keeps, and fit new doors when you want an upgrade.
Tenements and period homes
Decades of settling leave floors sloping and openings out of square, original doors are often bigger than today's standard sizes, and layers of paint make them stick. We ease, rehang and repair original panelled doors so they work properly again.
Flat entrance doors
Security upgrades, fire door installation, draught-proofing and repairs to the door between your home and the common stair.
Shared entrance and back doors
Repairs to shared front doors and back doors, including closers, frames, locks and rot. We're happy to work with factors or with groups of neighbours arranging a common repair.
Cupboards and presses
Freeing painted-shut cupboard doors, fixing catches and repairing built-in cupboards and presses.
Rot and water damage
Replacing timber damaged by leaks, wet rot or dry rot once the cause has been dealt with.
Period door restoration
Original Victorian and Edwardian doors are worth keeping. We strip, repair and refurbish period doors, replace damaged panels and mouldings, and can make matching doors where originals have been lost. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, restoring the original doors is often the best option, and we can advise on what's involved.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a small job cost?
Small jobs from £99, like easing a sticking door, freeing a stuck sash window or resealing a bath. We'll confirm the exact price before any work starts.
Will a standard-size door fit my home?
In most newer homes, yes. Older homes and tenements often have non-standard openings, so we'll measure up and advise whether a standard door can be trimmed to fit or whether a made-to-measure door is needed.
Should I repair or replace my old doors?
Solid timber period doors can almost always be repaired, and they're often better quality than modern replacements. We'll give you an honest recommendation.
Do I need a fire door for my flat?
It depends on your building and circumstances, such as whether the flat is rented or an HMO. We can explain the options, including fire doors and approved upgrades for original doors.
Who pays for repairs to a shared entrance door?
Shared doors usually belong to all the owners, so the cost is normally split between them, often arranged through a factor. We can quote for the work and provide what your factor or neighbours need.
Can you supply the doors and hardware?
Yes. We can source doors, locks and ironmongery through our trade suppliers, or fit items you've bought yourself.
How long does it take to hang a door?
A single internal door usually takes a few hours. We'll give you a clear timescale with your quote.
