Bathrooms are hard on timber. Water gets past a tired seal or a slow leak and soaks into the wood underneath, and by the time the floor feels soft beside the toilet or the bath panel starts to swell, it has usually been going on for months. Fix and Build repairs bathroom joinery across Glasgow, from rotten floors and joists to bath panels, boxing in and sticking doors.

We're joiners, and we work with our own plumber and electrician for the parts of a job we don't do ourselves. If you'd rather use your own trades, that's fine too. Either way, if water is still leaking it needs to be fixed first, and then we repair the damage it left behind.

Water coming through a ceiling? Turn the water off at the stopcock and call a plumber. If the damage has left your home unsafe or insecure, see our emergency joinery page.

Rotten and spongy bathroom floors

This is the bathroom repair we're asked to do most. Small leaks around the toilet, bath or shower soften the floorboards first, then the joists underneath. We lift the floor, cut out the rotten timber, strengthen or replace damaged joists, and lay a new floor in moisture-resistant boards, ready for vinyl or tiles.

In a flat, it pays to act early. Water that gets through the floor ends up in the ceiling of the flat below, and then there are two homes to repair.

Water-damaged skirtings, frames and window boards

Steam and splashes take their toll on bathroom woodwork. We replace swollen or rotting skirtings, door linings, architraves and window boards, matching existing profiles so the repair blends in. Every face of the new timber is primed, backs included, so it stands up to the damp.

Bathroom doors and locks

Damp makes bathroom doors swell, so they catch on the frame or won't close at all. We ease and rehang them, fit new privacy locks and thumb-turns, and replace doors that have warped too far to save. For other door work, see our doors page.

Bath panels and boxing in

We make and fit bath panels in timber or water-resistant board, scribed to baths and walls that aren't quite square, with a section that lifts out so the pipes can be reached. We also box in pipework and cisterns neatly, with access panels wherever there's a valve or joint that may need attention later.

Resealing baths, showers and basins

A failed seal is behind a lot of the rot we repair. We cut out old, mouldy or split sealant, clean and dry the joint, and run a fresh bead. We seal baths with water in them, so the seal isn't pulled apart the first time someone gets in, and if your bath flexes we firm up its frame and feet first.

Units, shelves and rails

We fit vanity units, mirror cabinets, shelving, towel rails and grab rails, fixed securely into whatever your walls are made of, from plasterboard in a new build to lath and plaster in a tenement. Where a unit needs connecting to water, our plumber can connect it, or we'll fit it ready for yours.

Our plumber and electrician, or yours

Having a new bathroom fitted? We do the joinery: lifting and relaying floors, building stud walls and boxing, fitting bath panels and doors, and making good at the end. We can bring in our own plumber and electrician, so you deal with one company for the whole job, or fit around your own trades. Either way, everyone gets a sound, level base to work on.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small job cost?

Small jobs from £99, like easing a sticking door, freeing a stuck sash window or resealing a bath. We'll confirm the exact price before any work starts.

My bathroom floor feels soft. Is that serious?

It usually means water has been getting into the floor for a while. Get it looked at soon: the longer it's left, the more of the floor, and possibly the joists, will need replacing.

Do you fix leaks?

Not ourselves, as we're joiners, but we can send our plumber to fix the leak, then repair the damage it caused. You're welcome to use your own plumber instead.

Can you sort the plumbing and electrics too?

Yes. We work with our own plumber and electrician, so we can organise the whole job for you. If you'd rather use your own trades, we'll work alongside them.

Will the toilet or bath have to come out?

Sometimes. If the rot runs underneath them, they'll need to come out so the floor can be replaced properly. We'll tell you when we quote, and our plumber can disconnect and refit them, or you can book your own.

Can you just reseal my bath?

Yes. It's a quick job, and replacing a failed seal early costs far less than repairing a rotten floor later.

Can you price from photos?

For smaller jobs like resealing, a bath panel or boxing in, photos are often enough. For floors we'll need to visit, because we can't see how far the damage goes until we look.
